About Mrs. S.

Hi, I'm Mrs.S. and I am currently an Independent Study teacher through the San Diego County Office of Education. Our division is Juvenile Court and Community Schools. My students live in North County communities, from Oceanside to Vista. I also work at the OZ program through the Y.M.C.A., on Tuesday and Thursday. I began my teaching career as a 5th grade teacher in Central California, after 4 years I relocated back home to San Diego. I have taught in J.C.C.S. since 1987, I started out at the Homeless Program, then called Harbor Summit, I had the 5th-8th graders. We started out in a former Auto Parts shop, then as they built the new Joan Kroc Shelter, I transfered into a bookmobile. We finally moved into a classroom, grades K-1st,2nd-4th,5th-8th, we had a great group of teachers and I really loved the students. I was at Harbor for 10 years and decided to try something different, homeschooling at C.H.E.P. This was such a fun program, I was able to create so many wonderful workshops and our parents and students were so enthusiastic. I had 12 terrific years at C.H.E.P, but sadly they closed our tremendous program! I then transfered to Arcadia Communty School and stayed for 3 years, it was a challenging site, but I felt I made a difference. Then an opening came up in Independent Study and I knew this was where I wanted to be, I am again working with old friends and that is always good for the soul. I enjoy working one on one with students they learn without the distractions of life around them, some attend college or work fulltime. My life is teaching and that can be in many different ways and places, but the most important part of my life is my family and my animals. Thanks for checking in, now you know a little more about me!
